FC080_L.jpgIntroduction
Dogs have been trained for various purposes. Examples of service dogs or assistance dogs include police dogs, detection dogs, guide dogs and hearing dogs. Animal assisted therapy aims to improve an individual’s social or emotional functioning.

However, with the exception of animal assisted therapy, assistance dogs have not been reported for use with individuals with dementia. As a form of intervention for assisting these individuals, information communication technologies (ICT) devices and various types of content are effective to cope with various symptoms of dementia. However, individuals with dementia so often forget to utilize ICT devices, or they refuse to wear the devices. Therefore, we came up with the concept of mounting ICT devices, such as sensors, cameras, or computers to dogs, thus making various forms of support possible beyond the work of traditional assistance dogs or ICT devices.

These combinations are expected to be explored as Human-Computer-Animal Interface (HCAI). The details of this idea are described on this web site. We are not sure how extend this plan will be feasible. Let’s try to rase an assistance dog for individuals with dementia. We hope you will upload your experiences on this web site to create more smart way of raising. In order to upload your experiences, you need a password. Please access to     .
This plan was presented at the 89th work shop of Human Interface Society (Aug. 3, 2012, Tokyo) and ICHS 2012 (International Conference on Humanized Systems, Aug.16, 2012, Korea).
